128 Days Later: The Marathon Truth – Running Isn’t the Hard Part
Today, as I reflect on crossing the finish line of the LSR Colombo Marathon, still unable to belive that I actually completed a Marathon; my body is recovering, and my heart is full! The euphoria of those final steps is real, yet it only lasted a few minutes. The true achievement, the real difficulty, lay in the 128 days that led up to it. This is the central truth I learned: Running a marathon is not difficult; training for a marathon is. The Beginning: A Plan and a Purpose

The Plan (putting the theory to practice)
Right. Yesterday, I mentioned that I have signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon MCM), which has gone virtual this year. The main goals are to: 1) increases the weekly mileage (substantially); and 2) avoid injuring myself before reaching the start line. Fortunately, I HAVE been running ... some. I probably have a good

Getting It Together

Last August I ran my fastest half-marathon in over a decade at Arugambay. And then in October, I narrowly missed a sub-four hour marathon in Bangalore, India (I ran 42.2 km in 3:59; however, I was still 400 meters short of the finish line … and a “marathon” is start to finish, doesn’t matter that I didn’t find the shortest

Kick-starting My Running (after Covid-19 lock-down)
Hi everyone, been some time since I lasted posted; but the three months of lock-down due to the Covid-19 global pandemic has not provided a lot of inspiration. During two of those three months I only managed to log just over 40 km for the entire month! Yes, a whole month of running and I barely covered the distance of one marathon …. :( After the “lock-down” was eased and we were able to go outside our houses for non-essential purposes, I started to put in some road runs. It

Finding Your Pace
One of the more common questions I hear from newer runners is, “How fast should I run?” That is a very good question; and the generic answer is, “It depends ….” But, there are some tools available that don’t cost anything but a bit of time that can help find the answer for your particular set of requirements and abilities. One tool that I have found particularly useful is ‘Jack Daniels’ VDOT Running Calculator’; and you can find it here: https://runsmartproject.com/calculator
